Following childbirth, about 10 to15 percent of all women experience postpartum depression, or PPD, which is depression associated with the aftermath of pregnancy. About 30 to 70 percent experience symptoms for one year or even longer. The purpose of this study is to learn which of two forms of therapy is more likely to help people who have body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). We are comparing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which is a promising new treatment for BDD, and supportive psychotherapy (SPT), which appears to be the most widely used therapy in the community to treat BDD and related problems, such as low self-esteem or problems with family members or friends.
