The Board of Directors [2], the governing body of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), is a volunteer group of members who are clinicians, researchers, and others with a commitment to advancing treatment, research, training, and education about anxiety disorders and depression. Board members reflect the highest standards of conduct and contribute their skills and resources to advance the mission of ADAA.
The ideal candidate is someone who considers ADAA his or her professional home; embraces the concept of a multidisciplinary organization involving clinicians and researchers from different disciplines; will actively recruit new members; promotes, presents, and attends the annual conference; and thinks strategically about the organization's growth and development.
Board members serve a three-year term that may be renewed in accordance with the ADAA Bylaws. [3] The Board meets twice a year, holds monthly conference calls, and conducts business throughout the year. Directors sign a code of ethics and agree to serve the organization in a manner that maintains confidence and trust in the integrity, honesty, objectivity, and credibility of ADAA. All Board members are expected to contribute to discussions, participate on monthly conference calls, attend two Board meetings per year, participate at the annual conference, and be accountable for projects and programs they oversee.
In addition, Board members agree to the following:
- Average time commitment is three to five hours every month.

- Personal statement (up to 750 words): Describe what you hope to contribute and gain from serving on the Board of Directors, including your relevant experiences and position in other organizations.
- Your ADAA involvement: List committees, conferences attended, presentations, special interest groups, etc.
- Cover letter of nomination from nominator or yourself.
