A Normal Kid

A Normal Kid

by Jordan

My name is Jordan. I am 11 years old.

About one year ago, I began experiencing a feeling of terror and panic during everyday situations. I was scared of everything, from going out to eat to going to a friend’s house. I told my parents, and we thought it might just be that a lot was going on. So we waited. As months went on, the anxiety and panicking didn’t get any better, and everything started to go downhill. I sort of figured I was going to be like this forever.

I knew I needed help. My parents took me to the doctor, who suggested we see another doctor in adolescent medicine, a nutritionist, and a therapist. This made me more scared than ever. I didn’t want to tell my friends about this, but it came down to no other choice. Every time I went over to a friend’s house, I freaked out before and during. It was so embarrassing to have to tell my friends about my problem, but I knew it had to be done.

As I began seeing my doctors, things began to get better. We are working hard and setting goals for me to solve my problems.

Now I know that there is hope for me to be a normal kid!
