Announces 26th Annual Conference in Miami, Florida, March 23-26, 2006
Understanding Risk & Resilience in Anxiety Disorders:
Implications for Research and Clinical Care
Silver Spring,
MD (January 2, 2006) - The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA)
will hold its 26th Annual Conference, entitled "Understanding Risk and
Resilience in Anxiety Disorders: Implications for Research and Clinical Care,"
at the Hyatt Regency in Miami, FL on March 23-26, 2006. This year's conference
focuses on individuals at risk for the development of an anxiety disorder as
a result of a variety of biological, psychological, or environmental factors
as well as those already manifesting difficulties and in addition, explores
factors that affect the response to treatment and chronicity of these disorders.
The conference
provides education about the nature, management and treatment of anxiety disorders;
this information is geared toward health care professionals, individuals with
anxiety disorders and their families, and the general public. These meetings
also serve as a forum for the presentation of the latest research and practices
available for anxiety disorders.
Attendees include
psychiatrists, psychologists, academic researchers, clinicians, therapists,
family and general counselors, and individuals interested in self-help. The
conference includes a broad range of half-day workshops, training sessions,
research sessions, clinical sessions, and consumer-oriented education/self-help
sessions. Leading national and international experts will discuss topics including
PTSD, phobias, panic disorder, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder,
and generalized anxiety disorder.
In addition, there
will be seven symposia, each devoted to the in-depth exploration of the following
topics:

entitled "The Psychobiology of Resilience to Extreme Stress: Implications
for the Treatment and Prevention of Anxiety Disorders," will be delivered
by Dennis S. Charney, MD of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
