ADAA > 25 Years: A History
Who We Are and How We Help
The
Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) is a widely respected national nonprofit organization that has been leading the way
to improve research, education, and treatment and find the cure
for anxiety disorders for more than 25 years.
ADAA is the only organization solely dedicated to informing the
public, health care professionals, the media, and legislators that
anxiety disorders are real, serious, and treatable. To accomplish
our goals we reach out to individuals who have an anxiety disorder
and their families; health professionals who treat people with
an anxiety disorder; medical researchers who are studying the
disorders to determine their causes and improve treatment options;
and media that can help promote awareness about anxiety disorders.
ADAA is the most inclusive organization of its kind. We have forged
a unique partnership that includes psychiatrists, psychologists,
social workers, counselors, primary care physicians, and other health
care and research professionals and organizations; as well as corporations,
public policy makers, journalists, educators, individuals who have
an anxiety disorder, and their families and friends. Together we
give a unified voice to the millions of Americans whose lives have
been affected by these disorders, as well as to the thousands of
health professionals who study and treat them.
We
are committed to improving the lives of the individuals and families
coping with an anxiety disorder. Our goals:
- Promoting
professional and public awareness and education of anxiety disorders.
- Increasing
awareness of the impact of anxiety disorders on people's lives.
-
Encouraging the advancement of scientific knowledge about the
causes and treatment of anxiety disorders.
- Assisting
individuals who have an anxiety disorder in finding appropriate
treatment and developing self-help skills.
- Reducing
the stigma that surrounds anxiety and other mental health
disorders.
Since
ADAA was originally formed in 1980, it has played a critical
role in advancing the understanding and treatment of anxiety disorders.
With your support, the ADAA will continue to do so for decades to
come.
