The
Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA)
is the only national, non-profit membership organization
dedicated exclusively to informing the public,
health professionals, and legislators that anxiety
disorders are real, serious, and treatable health
conditions. Since 1980, ADAA has been disseminating
information, linking people who need treatment
with those who can provide it and advocating for
cost effective treatments. Their membership includes
professionals who conduct research and treat anxiety
disorders and individuals who have a personal
or general interest in learning more about such
disorders.
In May 2003, ADAA launched the
ADAA Women’s Initiative to reach out to
women along the life continuum and their families
to educate them about anxiety disorders and encourage
them to talk to a health professional about the
anxiety disorder symptoms they may be experiencing.
From the time a girl reaches puberty to the time
a women becomes an older adult, women are twice
as likely to have an anxiety disorder.
